If you've visited Hazel's, our cozy taproom at The Village Inn, you've likely noticed our love and appreciation of Hill Farmstead. What is it about these beers that inspires such devotion among craft beer enthusiasts? Let's explore the story behind the brewery that's consistently ranked among the world's best—and why we're proud to regularly feature their exceptional brews at Hazel's.

5 pint glasses of beer

Roots in the Northeast Kingdom

Just 30 minutes from East Burke, in the tiny town of Greensboro, Hill Farmstead Brewery sits on land that's been in the Hill family for eight generations. Founder Shaun Hill transformed his family's ancestral home into a brewery in 2010, naming many of his beers after his ancestors who worked this same land centuries ago.

Philosophy and Craft

Hill Farmstead's guiding philosophy—"to hand craft succinct, elegant beers of distinction and to revive and diversify the farmscape of the Hill Farmstead in Greensboro"—shines through in every aspect of their operation. Their commitment to quality is unwavering, from sourcing the finest ingredients to their meticulous brewing process.

The brewery's approach combines old-world techniques with innovative practices. Their water, drawn from the family's spring, provides a distinctive mineral profile that contributes to their beers' renowned character. This attention to detail extends to every element of production, creating beers of remarkable complexity and balance.

The Hill Farmstead Experience at Hazel's

At The Village Inn, we believe in showcasing the best of Vermont to our guests. That's why we maintain a close relationship with Hill Farmstead, regularly featuring their exceptional beers in our carefully curated rotation at Hazel's Taproom.

On any given day, you might find:

  • Mary (German-style Pilsner): A crisp, refreshing pilsner perfect after a day on the trails

  • Arthur (Saison): A farmhouse ale with subtle complexity and a dry finish

  • Florence (Wheat Saison): Delicate, floral, and perfect for summer evenings

  • Seasonal offerings: Limited availability beers that showcase Hill Farmstead's creativity

Our staff at Hazel's is always happy to guide you through the current Hill Farmstead offerings, explaining the story behind each beer and helping you find the perfect pour to match your preferences.
